This website is a companion to How America Works: Understanding Your Government and How You Can Get Involved (Scholastic, 2020), a civics program designed to engage middle- and high-school students in a way that traditional textbooks and supplementals cannot—and at a time when teen interest in critical issues facing the United States and the world is at an all-time high.

We’ve paired each of the 10 units of How America Works with a set of learning extensions to enrich your classroom experience. For each unit you will find Major Concepts, Discussion Questions, and a Class Activity, along with a Skills Library to reinforce important Social Studies and ELA standards.  In addition, engaging, knowledge-building videos accompany each section to set the stage for learning and provide entry-points to the content for students at every level.
